CarPlay for your Tesla

I have a 2018 Tesla Model 3. It’s been the best car I’ve ever owned. Since I picked it up in September 2018, I’ve only had to put on new tires and refill the windshield washer fluid. It’s been a great experience.

Except.

It doesn’t have CarPlay.

My wife’s car has CarPlay and it’s just so satisfying to use. Unfortunately, Musk refuses to include it in his vehicles. On a whim, I did some Googling and found an entire class of products that interface with the USB port and enables CarPlay on the Tesla screen.

But not how you would expect.

After connecting the device, you have to:

1. Connect your Tesla to the devices built-in WiFi hot spot.
2. Open the Tesla web browser and navigate to the IP address of the hot spot.
3. Use CarPlay in the web browser.

Does it work?

Reviews are mixed but I’m going to test a number of them and report back.
