Software Picks the Hits

Yesterday I mentioned that researchers are using software to help improve sales of books. Similar principles are being used to pick the next hit music.

The Guardian is reporting that the music industry uses a software application called Hit Song Science by a company in Spain called Polyphonic HMI. It’s uses artificial intelligence to help determine which songs will sell and which won’t. (via Slashdot)

So, the real question is: How will this impact the creative process? Will it impact the record labels already-cookie-cutter A&R? Will it get worse or better? (Probably worse.)
