Life Without Email

I’ve been without email since Saturday morning. It appears that Panix, the ISP where I have my primary mailbox, had their domain hijacked.

Luckily I found a workaround, otherwise I would have had to wait until DNS propogated worldwide to get my mail back.

Not to be melodramatic, but being without email is like being stranded on a deserted island. (Or being on vacation, depending on your perspective.) 😉

Interestingly, it doesn’t affect my positive perception of Panix in any way. Sure, I was a bit annoyed to be without email all weekend, but their track record is unbelievable. I’ve used panix.com as my primary mailbox since 1995 and since that time, there have only been two outages – both of them due to circumstances outside of their control. They ROCK.

I would highly recommend you check them out. Yes, you could get more disk storage for your mail somewhere else for the same price point, but where are you going to find that kind of reliability? It’s worth every penny.

Update: You should also check out DataPipe and Dreamhost for hosting.
