Amazon Plans DRM-Free Digital Music Store

John Federico

According to the Wall Street Journal, the store will have "millions of songs" from "more than 12,000 record labels" including EMI, the label that will be releasing DRM-Free tracks via iTunes some time this month. However, unlike the iTunes store, Amazon tracks will be available in MP3 instead of Apple's AAC.

No word on a launch date. All we know is that the Amazon Music Store will be available "some time later this year."

This will be a BIG story on this week's episode of On Digital Media.

WSJ story here. (Is it just me, or is that a terrible illustration of Jeff Bezos? Subscription Required.)
